What is Shillong Teer? (Shillong Teer Result List)
Shillong Teer, a game based on the sport of archery, comes from Meghalaya, India, and the surrounding areas. The word “Teer” means “arrows,” which is fitting as the game behaves like a way for the Khasi to show off their skills at archery. The game has cultural significance — the Khasi view this game and the aspects of its development with their feelings about their cultural heritage. The game did begin as a sport for showing skill and accuracy but was soon popular betting with betting types of operating.
As time passed, Shillong Teer became a form of gambling where individuals would wager bets with each other based off of the outcome of the first round of archery. The game of archery slowly turned from a cultural based skill demonstration to a popular betting on archery, distancing itself from it’s traditional practice.
With the advent of the internet and technology, Shillong Teer grew popular, reaching an audience much larger than the Khasi territory. Today, Shillong Teer represents both an embodiment of traditional culture, and how traditional forms of entertainment can change to meet the style of today.

How Does the Shillong Teer Game Function?
The Shillong teer game is played six days a week (from Monday to Saturday), with a break on Sunday.
There are two rounds (the first and the second). In the first round, 50 archers shoot 30 arrows, while in the second round, 50 archers shoot 20 arrows.
Results of round one are available at 4 p.m. and results for round two are available at 5.p.m., although times can vary slightly based on the season and other arrangements (i.e., winter or summer).
There are more than 5,000 Teer counters all around Meghalaya. So, it is no surprise to see so many people passionate about the game. The numbers indicate how well-connected Shillong Teer is to the citizens and society in the region.
What Does the Future Hold for Shillong Teer?
As Shillong Teer steps into the future, it is at a very interesting juncture—where change collides with tradition. Once relegated to the rolling hills and busy roads of Meghalaya, this centuries-old game of chance is now spreading its wings slowly outside state lines, finding ways to comply with the rules of a digitally integrated world.
The shift from the physical to the digital world has already started. Today, the day-to-day outcomes can be tracked by various dedicated websites and mobile phone apps, and it is possible to remain informed even without being present in Shillong. Web-based platforms have not only increased access but also enabled mass-level participation. Individuals from remote areas of India—most of whom have never set foot in Meghalaya—can now participate in this interesting game with a screen click.
Despite these hurdles, the heart of Shillong Teer remains unchanged. It continues to be a cherished part of Khasi identity-a symbol of community, tradition, and everyday hope.
How Did the Teer Game in Shillong Get Legal?
In 1982, the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act gave state regulation to Shillong Teer and legalized it, and since then the State government has been responsible for its legal status with Chief Minister of Meghalaya on top of that.
The legal legislation surrounding Teer betting is the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act, 1982.
At the time, Chief Minister Captain Williamson A. Sangma was a big advocate for this to happen with backing from the state legislature, and that law recognized Teer as a legal betting game and not gambling, which allowed Teer to be normalized and governed under state legislation.
What Britisher's Did for Teer
A popular theory says that during the colonial period, Shillong was the capital of Assam, and the British loved the weather of Meghalaya. It was an escape from the warm of the plains.
During colonial, the British saw this game and impressed by this traditional competitive sport. It believed they started the lottery and betting system for traditional archery practices.
The past said that they made the whole system in the process of modification on their own which reflects ont he way of procedure.
