How Does the Game Work? (Shillong Teer FC)
The format of the Teer game is quite simple and easy to understand. The game is played six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday being the day off.
There are two rounds in the game:
In the first round, 50 archers each shoot 30 arrows.
In the second round, the same 50 archers shoot 20 arrows each.
The results for the first round are announced at 4:00 p.m., and the second round results are revealed at 5:00 p.m. Please note that the timing of the rounds may change depending on the season (summer and winter).
The popularity of the game in Meghalaya is evident, with more than 5,000 Teer counters across the region. This highlights just how ingrained and beloved the game is among the local population.

What is Shillong Teer Game?

At that time the CM of Meghalaya was Captain Williamson A. Sangma who held the political power at the time to enact the law and make the game legal, supported by the state legislative body. Since then, it recognized as betting game rather than gambling.
Britisher's Contribution in Teer
A popular theory suggests that during the colonial period, Shillong was the capital of Assam, and the British were drawn to the cool weather of Meghalaya as a retreat from the heat of the plains.
While in Shillong, the British observed the traditional archery games of the Khasi community and were impressed by the competitive spirit of the sport. It is believed that they introduced the lottery and betting systems, transforming the traditional archery practices into the betting game we know today as Shillong Teer.
