Let’s understand with an example: Let us assume, out of 100 numbers you choose 57 and 12 as your target number and you put Rs 100 on each number. When the result came out, your prediction was correct and the result was 12.
As a reward now you will receive Rs 8,000 as your reward because you put Rs 100 on number 12. (As mentioned earlier in Shillong Teer, you will get Rs 80 on the Rs 1 you invested.)
Why Government Legalize Shillong Teer?
Before the legalization of Teer in Meghalaya the game banned in the 1970s by the state government because of multiple reasons:

How Shillong Teer's results are listed?
In both rounds, archers shoot arrows at a particular target 50 shooters shoot arrows in both rounds with 30-20 arrows each. The last two digits of the target-hitting arrow considered the final result.
Let’s understand with an example: In the first round, 50 archers take aim at the target with 30 arrows each, a total of 1,500 arrows. Out of that let’s assume 951 arrows hitting the target. So, the result will be 51. (Because the last two digits taken as final result.)

Under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act of 1982, the State government and the Chief Minister of Meghalaya regulated the game. Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act, 1982 looks after all the legal factors of this unique betting game.
At that time the CM of Meghalaya was Captain Williamson A. Sangma who held the political power at the time to enact the law and make the game legal, supported by the state legislative body. Since then, it recognized as a betting game rather than gambling.
Another popular theory says that during the colonial period, Shillong was the capital of Assam, and the British loved the weather of Meghalaya as it was an escape from the warm weather of the plains.
At that time, the British saw this game and were impressed by this traditional competitive sport. It is believed that they started the lottery and betting system for the traditional Khasi archery practices.
